This very refined painted plank bottom settee is from the Mid-Atlantic states and features pierced back splats and stretchers with inset spheres. The dynamic red and black background paint is highlighted with stenciled patterns, free hand decoration, and gilt and green highlights. Made around 1840, the settee has a single board poplar seat.
