This very large and ornate sampler was executed in 1834 by S Hoar. Both the Hoar and Morgan families were from Sadsbury Township, Lancaster County, PA. In the lower right section of the sampler, the name S Sprague and Teacher are stitched within a floral border. The maker used both silk needlework and appliqués of gauze to form the numerous flowers on the sampler. The needlework and gauze are in excellent condition however there are areas of deterioration on the linen background. I have included photos to show these areas. The sampler retains the original Mahogany frame. W: 32.25" H: 32.25".
