Lancaster County PA Memorial Needlework

This needlework is from Catherine Buchanan's School, which was located in Marietta, Pennsylvania from 1825 until 1836. The figures, which have real hair, are grieving over the death of William Johnston who died in 1822. The needlework was wrought by Louisa Myers (1822-1879) who lived in York County, Pennsylvania. The needlework has a one inch repair on the bottom left corner and several minute holes in the gauze background material. The frame is a custom made replacement. The sampler (sight) measures 18.5 inches square.
