This colorful and folky watercolor may have been the original artwork for an advertising sign promoting Whitman's Fountain Pump. The drawing is done in pencil with watercolor highlights. Josiah A. Whitman was the proprietor and manufacturer of the Whitman's Fountain Pump located at 128 North Main Street, Providence, R. I. The watercolor has a horizontal fold crease 1.5 inches from the top and some slight foxing. This circa 1880 watercolor is in a period but not original frame. Sight size: W: 11.5", H: 9.25".
