This brass tobacco box from the 18th century, is most likely of Dutch origin. The lid of the box is exquisitely engraved and the locking mechanism is quite complicated. The lock is activated by turning the colonial man and woman to the correct number and sliding the moon face toward the center to open the box. There is a star missing on either side of the moon face and there is some damage on both front corners of the lid.
