This unusual watercolor is dated March 2, 1830 and was likely made during Kedey's courtship of Eleanor Yates. Kedey and Yates were married November 4, 1830. Samuel Gilbert Kedey immigrated from Ireland in 1827 and was teaching school in the Wheeling, WV area in the 1830s. Kedey and his wife moved to Illinois in the late 1840's. The watercolor has three tears extending from the side margins. W: 19.5, H: 15.5" (sight).
