This style of sword was worn by American diplomats in the 1830-1850 time period. The sword features a brass hilt with a gilt finish and two mother of pearl plaques. The knuckle bow is decorated with floral designs and the shell counter guard is adorned with the arms of the United States and an oak leaf border. The triangular blade is partially blued with floral sprays and military designs. The blade is initialed "T D L" near the hilt. A similar sword is referenced in The American Sword 1775-1945 by Harold L. Peterson page 185.  The sword is in excellent original condition. L: 37'.
